Holy Trinity Church Gravesend.
« on: Saturday 28 April 18 17:46 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information on the WW1 Memorial which was inside Holy Trinity Church Gravesend.  The church was built in 1844 and demolished in 1963.  The WW1 Memorial was on the church organ apparently and was removed before demolition.  Does anyone have a photo of the interior of the church or a photo of the memorial or possibly know where it was moved to?  Even if there is a list of names anywhere it would help.
Thanks
K8T

There is a photograph of the war memorial on Windmill Hill, Gravesend, on "War Memorials on line" with most of the names legible.  Perhaps the one in the church was confined to members of the congrgation.

Thanks brentor boy.  I have all the names on the Windmill Hill Memorial but I'm looking for Holy Trinity in particular as I'm looking at all the local memorials.  It would refer to the congregation and links to local families.

Have you tried contacting the local authorities? Perhaps they might know what happened to the memorial?

Hi Polarbear, yes I've been in touch with the local authority and put out messages on local sites.  No luck at all.  Usually someone comes up with an old photo but it is proving illusive .

Hi

There appears to be a church school of the same name.  It might be worth contacting them.  They might know where it went.

They have a general email address on their contacts page.

Yes, there was a school with the same name. Which burnt down. Try Gravesend Historical Society. I have put a post on Gravesend Yesteryear for you, to see if anything comes up...… Iris :D   Maybe Medway Cityark, could help as well, if you contact them.....

someone has suggested...…… Rochester Diocesan offices as they would have had to give permission to de-consecrate the church and demolish it. Alternatively the local British Legion may know?  Hope this gives you some help :D  Holy Trinity, although in Gravesend, comes under the parish of Milton Next...
