Hi,
My 2nd cousin, who lives in Upstate New York, has asked me if I can locate an obituary for his uncle, JAMES (JOCK) MASON which was published in a Glasgow newspaper on his death in the 2nd quarter of 1973. Rod's family had the newspaper cutting of the obituary but it was lost. Rod would dearly like to get another copy but I haven't been able to locate it for him.
JAMES (JOCK) MASON was born in Pollokshaws, Renfrewshire in 1900, an area which is in the registration district of Eastwood, Glasgow, Scotland. He was known by his nickname, JOCK but his actual middle name was WINGATE, his grandmothers maiden name.
I know very little about his background other than he moved to Selby, Yorkshire, England and ran a Hotel there with his second wife, Helen. Rod's father, Al Mason visited his brother just before his death from prostate cancer in 1973.
JAMES (JOCK) MASON was. apparently, a very popular character and on his death his obituary was published in a Glasgow newspaper. It may also have been published in Selby but I don't know if that is the case.
I have tried Ancestry and Find my Past without success and wondered if anyone on RootsChat could help me with their local knowledge.
I would be grateful for any help you could provide which might lead to finding the obituary.
Many thanks,
Baz.
