" Needash " ....?
« on: Thursday 03 May 18 21:55 BST (UK) »
??? Mean anything to anyone? It's a word. Not a name.

Craziest thing; I was getting some hay, for the horses, and as I exited the hay shed, aiming to nip smartly across the pen, into the stables, I said; " Here we go, horses. I'm just gonna dash ..... "

Bang! " Needash ". A word I haven't heard, or thought, in pushing fifty years! In my family, it basically mean't " Shh! Say nothing! " But, we'd use " Kakker " amongst ourselves.

So, I'm thinking it could be another of the Irish Gypsy words my people picked up. They had a fair bit to do with Ireland and I know a few more words we'd use were of that origin.

Can anyone throw any light on this, please?

Thanks  :)

:-\ Seems tenuous, Tuggist. I mean; It does sound like the right word. But, that context is right out the window, isn't it? What's " The Flash Tailors " anyway? All sounds a bit Dickensian.

I think we need someone more up on their Shelta / Irish to help on this one.

:) " Nidash " actually sounds, and looks good!

My spelling is purely, randomly phonetic, of course. I could just have easily gone for " Kneedash ". God knows where we'd end up then.

Nidash is Hindi? Cool! What does it Mean though, please? I couldn't find it.

Nor could I find Partridge's on Kindle, unfortunately. Or I'd have likely bought that. Always fancied a copy. Eyeballs just aren't up to paper books any more  :-[
