Where exactly did this marriage take place?
« on: Friday 04 May 18 22:28 BST (UK) »
I have this record that I believe may be the couple I want.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1922/09205/5330182.pdf

I know my James Murphy b 1893 Ballyart Wexford wed a Margaret O'Leary b 1895 Wexford. My Aunt has recorded that he was a Draper but no other info about him until I recently found out from his descendant that he went to London. I can't find him in 1911, there are a few James Murphys the right age but nothing to indicate if its him or not.
I believe the above is his wedding but I can't be certain. I wanted to try and research the Celebrant as he is Murphy and that would explain why they went to Wicklow to marry. I can't find St Kevins 'Glenasalagh' which is what it looks like to me. I don't have any George J Murphy Priest known to me in my tree but my tree is far from complete.
Thanks

Hello,

Your record doesn’t work as a link. Would a date be better?
Could it be Glendalough?  http://www.dublindiocese.ie/parish/glendalough/

Sorry about the link, I have fixed it but I see you were quicker than me. Thank you. I will look and see if I can find any parish records for there.

Thanks Heywood for both links. The George J birth I don't think is connected to my family, my Murphys were Blackwater area mainly and the chap who married was Ballyart. There is a George Murphy, no J but it could be his confirmation name? https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1888/02493/1924800.pdf
This is close enough to the right area I will spend a bit of time looking into it. Both parents were Murphy so I am thinking the mother is my best bet for a link.

Murphy isn’t exactly an uncommon name in Wexford   ;)

The Registrar on the link you give is a Murphy.

It is not usual to use a confirmation name and I only gave the link because of the initial - the priest’s second name could be John/James.

The witness is Peter Murphy - have you made any links there?

I know that the Murphys sadly are very common, I have Murphys married to Murphys! Yes Peter is a family name in my Murphys and James did have an older brother Peter. I know very little about Peter, my Aunt (her research is my starting point for all research, on the whole I find I can verify but occasionally I find a mistake) My Aunt said Peter went to USA but I don't know when.
The bottom line is I think I will have to accept that this record is probably my James. Age, Occupation and County right, Brides name and age right, Fathers name right, witness also a possible brother. Celebrant a Murphy so could be a reason they went to St Kevins. I think I will never be able to be certain of this one but will put it in my very possibly box.
Thanks again for your help
