John Milliken/Millikin and Sarah Johnston
« on: Monday 07 May 18 22:38 BST (UK) »
John Millikin and Sarah Johnston had a big family of children born in Co.Leitrim, I don't know  where, between 1802 and 1826. They then emigrated to Ohio, USA. They were supposedly married in Carnmoney abt 1800-1802. The oldest child was Thomas Millikin born abt 1802 who married mary Ann Groves in 1835 in Ohio but Mary Ann was born in Ireland abt 1812. Does anyone have information of John and Sarah?
The second child was Christopher Millikin born July 15,1805 who married Mary D. Millikin, daughter of Thomas Millikin and Elizabeth Boone.
I am lost as to where to start  with this family

What makes you think born in Leitrim but married in Carnmoney? If this is Carnmoney in Antrim (outside Belfast) and you have a source which says born 'Leitrim' then Leitrim townland (roughly north of Randalstown) in Drummaul Parish, Co. Antrim might be more likely. Only about 20 miles or less from there to Carnmoney Presbyterian Church rather than the 120 miles from there to Leitrim town, Co. Leitrim.

Helps if you post details to information found to save us having to recheck the same thing. Gravestone says Christopher died 1890 age 85 born 1805 NOT 1815-

Thanks Aghadowey.  I didn’t realize there was a Leitrim townland and I bet you are right.  That makes a lot of sense.  I did look for baptisms on the Carnmoney site but I didn’t find the Millikin children.
And thanks ciderdrinker for the heads up about the info on Findagrave. There is a wealth of information there.  I am puzzled as to how John could’ve been in the army in 1812. I don’t have a subscription to Fold 3 either but will drive to the nearest library which has Fold3 when I get a chance.  It is about 60 km each way.
Thanks again everyone.

The Army dates coincide with the War of 1812 which started in June 1812 and lasted until 1815.

But didn’t the war of 1812 happen in USA when John was supposedly still in Leitrim having children?
John J. Millikin was born May 5, 1813 and Ellen D. Was born Mar 21, 1815 in Ireland.

Britain was involved in it but without seeing the Army record it's impossible to know what was recorded, if it is the same person, etc.

Hi
I thought I'd made it clear where I found the details but John Millkin and Christopher  his osn were found from the grave details on Find a grave website.

The Fold 3 Army record is indexed on Ancestry but as I said I don't have a sub so can't see what it holds.
