further to my last post I checked the birth registrations on the GRO website for MCConville variants with mothers maiden name Smith and Michael seems to be the first birth.
There is a marriage of a Catherine Smith on the same page as a Peter McConnell Gateshead district March quarter 1856 vol 10a p 642. May be worth getting this certificate to see if they are at Nelson Street and it should also give father's names which should help when searching Irish records.
