Hi there,
I want to ensure that I have the correct Elizabeth Morris who married my 3rd great uncle Robert Laycock Dickinson in Q March 1862 in West Bromwich, Staffs. vol 6b page 662. The record may still say Richard Laycock Dickinson, but it is Robert. His spouse appears to be missing on the record.
***
Update; The Anc***** marriage record still appears to be missing Elizabeth, but the FreeBMD record does list her.
***
  So who was Elizabeth's father?
Thanks
Richard

My theory is that ROBERT Laycock Dickinson married Elizabeth Morris who was the daughter of Billingsley Morris, land surveyor.
**
Elizabeth's sister Rebecca Surges Morris is living with her parents in the 1871 census, but is living (unmarried) with Robert and Elizabeth in the 1881 census. All the dates and places correspond.
**
If I don't hear from another source, I may have to order the birth certificate to get the information I need.
Thanks
Richard

The marriage is not listed on www.westmidlandsbmd.org.uk which would have shown the venue.

The full GRO index shows him as Richard - not Robert

Now I'm determined to get to the bottom of this.
Family trees on Anc***** have lots of info for Billingsley, his mother Elizabeth Surgey and his daughter Elizabeth except ...
There's a gap in the years following 1861 and they have (incorrectly I think) listed Elizabeth's death as 1895.

I'll order the certificate if I have to.

Hello Richard

I wouldn't trust family trees, without checking & working back myself, the actual Death, Marriage, Birth, Death, Marriage, Birth ... Certificates & Documents starting with my known ancestor, along with the Census.

I agree with you Mark.
I added Billingsley Morris and Rebecca Surgey Morris to my tree and everything fits.
I ordered the marriage certificate.
One or two other trees really have researched deeply, so I believe I'm on the right trail.

The only birth for a Robert Laycock Dickinson is 1849 in Hunslet so we can discount him as he was only 13 in 1862

The reason Elizabeth Morris not coming up as possible bride on Ancestry is because they have transcribed the reference as 6b page 66  and not 6b 662 - looking at the original GRO index page the 3rd number of page - '2' - is there but it is faint and the transcriber omitted it.
