William Forrest Army Service Corps
« on: Thursday 17 May 18 21:23 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me, my Gt Gt Uncle was William Forrest, I can see two army numbers for him 55890 and 228574.

He was a driver in the Army Service Corps but I am trying to decipher his papers but struggling as they appear to be in such poor condition.

There appears to be two different attestation papers for him? I can also see that at some point he transferred, would that be from Army Reserve Class B? I can slo pick out that he was at Grove Park for a time which I assume would tie in with the fact he was a driver. He was then transferred to somewhere else, it looks like Leicester Square, is that right?

If anyone can help me piece this all together, I would really appreciate it.

Attested-11/12/15 (possibly under the Derby Scheme) mobilised & then stood down
& placed on Army Reserve meaning going back to his day job until needed.
2/10/16-re-mobilised & posted to Grove Park.
Here he had the prefix M2 with his first number meaning he was a mechanic concerned with the repair & maintenance of military vehicles.
He was given his second number at the time or just prior to embarkation this time as a driver.
13/1/17-posted to France.
Attached to 228 Seige Battery RGA in 134 Heavy Artillery Motor Transport section under the umbrella of 402 Motor Transport Coy. A.S.C.
The rest are various transfers to Mechanical/Motor Transport Coys.
