Colonel / General Doughty
« on: Wednesday 23 May 18 08:20 BST (UK) »
I am searching for any information on any Colonel and/or General Doughty's from around the late 1700's / early 1800's in the USA.

I have copies of family letters from an Eliza (Elizabeth) Doughty (5x G Grandmother) writing to her daughter Emma in the UK from the USA, referencing her husband (presumably), a Colonel Doughty. Later letters refer to him as General Doughty.

Further, we understand Emma Doughty married a Captain Wild, who fought in the Peninsular Wars for the British who had a child named Emma Caroline Wild (born in France).

The only Colonel / General Doughty I can find that would fit timing wise would be General John Doughty (b.1754), but any genealogy links only show he has one son - James.

Generals George S. Doughty (b.1795), Enoch Doughty (b.1792) and Solomon Doughty (b.1772) - would all be likely too late.

Any help appreciated

Thanks Sandra.

So my information is redundant  :-\

I thought from the wording that Emma Caroline was ‘understood’ to be the daughter but no information.

In the previous thread, mention is made of ‘Benjamin Wild’ being present at the marriage of Emma.
This isn’t quite right. He is named as her father and as a witness.

Information was given re a possible Benjamin Wild on the thread but no acknowledgment from mjtaylor1978.

Hi Heywood / *Sandra*

Thanks - I appreciate you looking at this and responding so swiftly.

My real concern / area for research is the Doughty connection in the US (through either Colonel / General Doughty or Elizabeth / Emma). The Wild part I have and was provided for info.

Thanks
Marcus

As a side note - Apologies for not acknowledging in public for the prior responses, but private messages between myself and prior respondents to my posts have led to further securing of information to which I have been very grateful. I didn't feel the need to clog up a public message board with a thank you to the world. You will note on my other posts however where I have not followed up privately and people have gone to the effort of responding I have acknowledged graciously.

Thanks for the clarification Marcus.

I realise from your posting on US board, that that is the focus but I had thought you were rather vague re Emma Wild and was hoping to help you find more about her. However that is no problem now. I was interested too, as I always am, when families are in my local area. ;)

With regard to the other thread, you have highlighted a problem where information is passed through personal messages and not on the public forum. You would not be ‘clogging up a public message board’ if you just pointed out that you now had the information. It helps others who might search unnecessarily  on your behalf.

Good luck with your research

Heywood

It’s a pleasure and not a negative criticism ;)

Going back to your request, was Mrs Doughty resident in US or just there temporarily with her husband?

What dates re the letter/s?
