Durham Cemetery lookup request

Hello

I am looking for a burial of George Muir died aged 55 in october 1854 at durham county Hospital, so cemetery name and grave index and map.

I am also looking for a cemetery map for Belmont Cemetery in Durham.

I am also looking for a

Jane/jean/jannet muir (still alive in 1871) or a Jannet Watson (still alive in 1851) buried at either of the two cemeteries

Where was George Muir living prior to his death? A lot of church graveyards & cemeteries don't have online records so a search of those in his usual place of residence would be a good place to start.

Belmont Parish Council are responsible for Belmont cemetery & will be the mostly likely ones to have a map of it.  Contact details here.

Squatt --- did Durham Cemetery exist in 1854?

There is a burial record for a George Muir buried on 23 Oct 1854 at what may be St Margaret's Church, Durham.

i think this is the george burial i want but i could not find a cemetery map or grave index for it

my family were journey man workers so did not have a lot of money so very inlikely to have a stone i also think part of this cemetery may have been cleared for houses?

Squatt -- I don't think it's what I would call a cemetery. I think it's a Church Graveyard.

Local archives or the local family history society MAY have the burial registers -- sometimes, just sometimes - there is a churchyard plan. Even rarer are grave registers - like gold dust - they show everyone who has a grave plot and who is in that plot, even if there isn't a stone.

These grave registers were needed in the past to show which plots were 'inhabited'. You need to be lucky for them to have survived though.

yeah its the gold dust i am hoping to find

i have the issue that georges wife and sister who were both with him in 1851 have disappeared

the wife appeared again in 1871 living still in durham but with her daughter and her family but then dissapeared again the daughters family stayed living in the same place till they died so the mother if she died might be buried in the same cemetry ( belmont) hence i am after to grave index and map for there

Really sorry I haven't been able to help -- although it does look like George Muir was buried at St Margaret's Church Graveyard. Other family members may just be in the same plot.
