William and Letitia are missing in 1891 Census
« on: Thursday 24 May 18 21:31 BST (UK) »
Hello

I'm researching my husband's side of the family at the moment and have this 20
year gap in the censuses.

William Davies and Letitia Morgan Married 15th July 1882 in the parish church at Llangynwyd Glamorganshire. They were both on the 1881 census in the area. For
some reason Letitia's surname is down as Jones - same as the couple she is
working for. Incidentally David Jones is a witness at the marriage.

They are on the 1901 and 1911 censuses living on Gwendolen/Gwendoline Terrace,
Maesteg. The same Terrace as William was living with his parents before
marriage.

In the 1911 census (named as David) it states that out of 13 children born
alive only 6 are still living.

With this huge gap of nearly twenty years, and the fact that mothers' maiden
names aren't given until after the last son was born - is it possible to find

I've tried every way I can think of to find them in the census and drawn a complete
blank. I'm thinking they must have been missed some way or other.

The GRO index now gives the mother's maiden name from 1837 to 1917
You have to sign up but it is free to use.

From the 1901 children were any born close to 1891?

We could look for his or her birth and see where they were living.

Hello Milliepede, the first daughter Mary was born in 1883 Maesteg, the next daughter on the 1891 census was born 1892 in Aberavon I think.
