Victorian Wedding Photo? "Though out of sight, but not of mind"
« on: Saturday 26 May 18 11:40 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone. I love collecting CDVs and cabinet cards. I have a wonderful cabinet card of a lady who I believe is in her wedding dress. She has written on the back of the cabinet card: "Though out of sight, but not of mind, I give to you this day this little token, true and kind, to you. Remember me". Beautiful :). And now I get to remember her!

Also the studio existed from 1886-1907, but I'm guessing it was taken around 1890-1895? Thank you for any help.

Hi and welcome to RootsChat. This dates from the mid-late 1890s. I too collect Cdvs and Cabinet cards and this is a lovely example and is in good condition. Thanks for sharing. Not sure that it's a wedding photo though but she does appear to be wearing a wedding ring. No sign of any flowers though.

I think this is more likely to be an evening dress.

Thank you, Carol. Perhaps it's not a marriage related photo then. Her beautiful gown threw me and also trying to work out how it relates to the message at the back: "...I give to you this day".

I think this is more likely to be an evening dress.

Thank you, Jim!

It's a rhyme & should be read thus:
Though out of sight but not of mind
I give to you this day
This little token true & kind
To you, remember me
So probably not to be taken too literally.

That's ever so kind of you. Thank you for your lovely restore! I can imagine how it would have looked like that originally in the 1890s  :).
