Tottenham/Edmonton Woodfords
« on: Monday 28 May 18 21:42 BST (UK) »
I am interested in contacting anyone who might be a descendant of Arthur John Woodford and Alice (possibly Jane) Palmer.  Arthur John was born Rookley, Isle of Wight in 1877 and died in Tottenham in 1946.  His address at that time was Carvell Road, Tottenham.

Thank you for the reply.  This is the correct individual.  He was my grandfather and I am hoping a descendant might respond with information to fill in some missing pieces.

PS if the death in 1946 is correct how can he be born 1877?

Yes in answer to your first question.  He was born in 1877 and he did die in 1946 but the Greenwich death you gave might not be him.  On the other hand my search has revealed so many inconsistencies  in details he gave about himself (two different military enlistment records, the second months after deserting showing different children, different ages etc.) he certainly could have passed himself off as much younger than he was, especially since this "wife" was considerably younger.  This , too, would have been a bigamous marriage because he was never divorced from my grandmother.

If he died in 1946 then the registration would be on freebmd but the only one shown was born 1890.

How do you know for certain he died in 1946 - what evidence do you have?

Only verbal from a family member and not sure where that came from.  As I mentioned, he was a bit shady and virtually every record I  have of him shows conflicting details.  Sometimes he had three children with ages listed and in other places birth order and ages different.  I think it is entirely possible he would lie about his age in this marriage.
