There’s a Dawson child buried 1/9/1899 at great watering. I can’t read the name but the child is aged 2 and a half years.
It’s image 81, record 1248 for anyone who has access to SEAX?

Probably Mabel Kate DAWSON death reg Sep qtr 1899 Rochford (4a/424) aged 2.

Yes ... that would fit.
Jamiesons, Martins and McGonigals of Coleraine, Londonderry
and
Cullens, Grahams and Challenors of Dublin county and city.

This may be Lily's death, but when did her husband die?
Dec 1918 Rochford 4a 1551
Dawson, Lily Maria
age 46

Have you got the certificate?
Thomas Dawson in Sellincourt Road in 1902
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-89FL-9425?i=549&cc=2228170

Was working on own account in 1901.
One interesting thing about the son - Thomas Jack Dawson was still an absent / naval military voter in spring 1921 in Great Wakering. Does the MoD hold some kind of service record for him?

Marriage in Rochford district
March 1925 4a 858
Thomas Dawson + Agnes Edkins
Could be pc. What did he say about his father on that?

Another possibility could be to look for a baptism in Brighton for Thomas junior. There is no guarantee there will be one of course. And it would probably mean looking via the SFHG, their indexes for C of E parish baptisms generally seem to go up to about 1900/1

Thank you for these.
We are not sure when Thos Snr died, but family believe it around around 1911/12; we don't know if it was in Sussex, Essex or neither, but the family is said to relocate to Gt Wakering at this time.

I made the same connection for Lily's death but haven't ordered that cert yet. I have ordered the marriage cert for Thos Jr and Agnes Edkins (who is another mystery!) and am waiting for that to arrive shortly.

Thanks for the find on the absent voter list; I didn't know about that index. This is a  match as he served as a driver in Royal Army Service Corps, DM2/208687, then EMT/46268 and he lived in the High St. We have his medal record: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interactive/1262/30850_A000429-01472/3401814?backurl=https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/151212426/person/202005107162/facts but it doesn't tell us much new. Enquiries are underway with MoD as we can't find anything else online.

No luck so far with a Sussex birth; Chichester, Brighton and Shoreham have been mentioned, but perhaps as you say I need access to parish records.
