Divorce and the insane

Wondering if a man was in an insane asylum, if the wife could divorce him to marry someone else, or would she have to wait for him to die?

Different laws applied in different countries, and at different periods in history.

It depends where and when you are referring to.

In 1937 the law was changed in the UK to allow women to divorce her husband for insanity.

He was in south Africa she returned to England about 1888 and remarried there in 1917

It used to be possible to remarry after 7 years separation, on the presumption of death.
