Hi I am hoping someone can assist in providing information on what medals my Great Uncle would have received
he is 7773 Sapper Jack Young
he was killed in Gallipoli and is buried in Portianos cemetery Lemnos Greece
I am visiting his grave in September and I believe I will be the first relative to do so
I would like to present the medals whilst there.

Although the war diary does not name him, from 4 September for some weeks his unit was working at Gully Beach/Ravine strengthening walls, digging roads and improving drainage.  Nice site here:

He received three campaign medals. These being
1914-1915 Star (because he landed Gallipoli 12 7 1915)
British War Medal
Victory Medal

Jack's Soldiers Died Great War entry states he 'Died'. The database differentiates between Killed in Action, Died of Wounds and Died where the last means natural causes & illness. During the Gallipoli campaign quite lot of men died of dysentery etc.
His burial at Portianos, Lemnos suggests that he was invalided ill from the Gallipoli Peninsula.

Small addition to Gwil's post.  Extract from the cemetery details:
Because of its position, the island of Lemnos played an important part in the campaigns against Turkey during the First World War. It was occupied by a force of marines on 23 February 1915 in preparation for the military attack on Gallipoli, and Mudros became a considerable Allied camp. The 1st and 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospitals, the 3rd Australian General Hospital and other medical units were stationed on both sides of Mudros bay .

yes I did say "killed" in Gallipoli. but I did know he died from dysentery on the Hospital Isle.
for some reason all the Johns in our family answer to "Jack" some old nickname i don't know of
I have seen replica medals online for little cost, so I will most likely leave them on his grave...
