Thank you so much for your help, always amazes me how quickly people find little things, when I’ve searched for months.

Robert looks promising, I will dig into that for a bit and get round to ordering the marriage certificate for Jane & John.

the 1862 marriage gives Robert's father as Philip, shipwright and Jane's as Charles, miner. Address for both 54 Mount St. Jane's age given as 23.

Haven't found that number Mount St on the 1861 census as yet, it seems to go from 51 to 57.

Robert’s father may be the Philip Palfreyman who died aged 39, Mar qtr 1850 Sunderland.

Philip was born as Philip PALFREY, 3 Mar 1810 and baptised 25 May 1810 at Bishopswearmouth to parents Philip Palfrey, Elizabeth Merriman.


Marriage: Philip PALFREMAN to Elizabeth MCKEE, Mar qtr 1840 Sunderland

1st son’s birth: Robert PALFRAY, mmn MCKEE, Mar qtr 1841 Houghton le Spring.

A possible sighting of Robert in 1871 is in Shildon, Durham indexed as Robert Palfreton (though the original is overwritten and rather unclear), lodger, “unmarried”, 30, ship carpenter, born Sunderland.
