Donald McIntosh born c. 1834 Nova Scotia
« on: Sunday 03 June 18 05:51 BST (UK) »
I am looking for Donald's parents and siblings. Donald was likely born in Hants, Nova Scotia in 1834, and he married Ruby Moody. He died in South Dakota, as did his children. Any help woud be appreciated, Diana

But, don't forget to look under Intosh (Mc)

added - Grave stone says born 15 September 1832

added again.  marriage 19 May 1863 Nine Mile River. Have you looked at the microfilm for that?

Thanks for trying. I did know about the wedding, and going by two censuses, he was born 1833/34. I am looking for a friend who likely descends from a sibling, based on DNA.

Have you sighted Donald’s  death certificate?
Are there clues in the Mason Downey name? Or does that come from Ruby’s family?

I’ve not found the entry yet, but I realise that marriage detail must come from the birth of the eldest child with the unpronounceable name.  If only they had been married a year later!

I found obituaries for Donald and Ruby.  ruby’s Names the five surviving  children with surnames of the married daughters.  Do you have those?

Because the names are so unusual, I did do general searches for anyone of the boys' names as well as on Scotland's People, because of the Scottish naming practises, but nothing came up. I know none of the names are in Ruby's family, and it's possible Downey is Donald's paternal grandmother's surname, so I have to follow that up.  I have also looked through Ancestry at all the Mc/MacIntoshes who immigrated to Canada prior to 1833, and they are all common names, and no children named, so I have to see if I can find ship manifests. Here's to solving puzzles, Diana

Have you noticed that in 1871 Donald has been enumerated as Daniel?  I wonder if that is significant.
