Anne Davies born about 1850 in Cellan - who were her parents?
« on: Sunday 03 June 18 20:26 BST (UK) »
Anne Davies married my great-uncle William Jones on 13th December 1871 in Lampeter, Cardiganshire. We've researched William elsewhere on this site.
Anne's father was David Davies, innkeeper, as stated on the marriage record. It appears that her mother was Margaret, but I haven't been able to find much about Anne's parents.
For that matter, I wonder what happened to Anne's second husband who I believe was David Griffiths. Anne and David married in 1897 in Q June in Bridgend, Glamorgan.
Thanks

I was beginning to doubt David Davies existence, as I can;t find him with Margaret and Anne in 1851 or 1871, but he pops up on 1881 and 1891,

1881 - Neuadd Arms (same as Margaret in 1871)
David Davies    55 - butcher and innkeeper b Llangadock
Margaret Davies    51

Although Margaret is a widow in 1871, on closer examination, so is this a second David Davies? Interestingly, Ms Davies of Neuadd Arms, Lampeter,  takes on the tenancy of the slaughterhouse in 1879.

Well that's confusing.
I thought that David had died about 1868. I couldn't decipher the name of the Inn that you say is the Neuadd Arms. What is the English for "Neuadd?"

Thanks very much Mabel.

"Neuadd" means "Hall"

Quite possible Margaret married two David Davies. Do yuo have her first husband at all, as I can;t find hom with them in 1851 or any of them in 1861

No. I don't have anything definitive about David, Margaret or Anne.
I've looked at this branch before and drawn a blank.

Thanks Osprey.
In the marriage record I've seen, David Davies in not noted as being deceased in 1871. Perhaps he is, perhaps he isn't.
So, the 1851 census record you found could fit and he could have died between late 1848 and 1851.

well the 1851 says wife so he would appear to be alive. Cellan & Llanfairclydogau are among the missing pieces from 1861

https://www.findmypast.co.uk/articles/census-for-england-wales-and-scotland-missing-pieces

Wonder if the David Davies of the Queens Arms in this article in 1868 is him?

http://newspapers.library.wales/view/3038866/3038870/44/

There is a notice 3 April 1868 of the death of David Davies of Church St, Lampeter but no mention of an inn/pub which makes it seem unlikely to be the correct one.
