Father: John CRAWFORD (b. 24/6/1868)
Mother: Jane/Jean/Jeannie BELL (b.29/3/1872)
Daughter: Jeannie Buchanan CRAWFORD (b. 13/1/1895)
Daughter: Maggie Hamilton CRAWFORD (b. 8/5/1896) m. Salathiel HILL in 1920 (d.1981)
Daughter: Janet Bell CRAWFORD (b. 31/3/1898 d. 6/12/1931)  She was a Hatter and the family were living at 78 Gretna Street, Bridgeton at the time
Daughter: Letitia Hamilton Jones Crawford (b: 3/7/1900 d: 11/1/1901)

The family then migrated to Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, Canada in 1903 (the father moved in April and the rest of the family in October) where a son was born (my grandfather)

Son: John Crawford (b: 15/1/1905 d: 31/1/1979)  He died in Osoyoos, BC, Canada

The family moved back to Scotland in August 1907

Son: Ian Douglas CRAWFORD (b. 1921  somewhere from 2/5/1921 - 31/12/1921) (d. 01-05-1943) He was born in Dennistoun

Grandson: William HILL (b. 04-09-1921) (d. 07-07-1942)

In 1944 the family were living at Selma, Taynuilt where John Crawford Jr applied for a birth certificate.  Presumably this was so that he could move back to Canada.

I've attached images of Selma Cottage and where it is - found on Google maps

Thank you so much for this information! So they probably moved to Canada.

This is going to be a needle in a haystack! Oh well, just another challenge!

Is there a way to find out to where they moved in Canada?

Ian is my great-uncle but I sadly never knew of him until this week.

The family moved to Canada in 1903 and came back in 1907 during which time my grandfather was born.  I found most of the family in the 1911 census living in Allan Street, Glasgow.  I found the passenger lists for the outbound journeys last year and then this week I found the return journey in August 1907.

Only John Crawford Jr moved to Canada (I think!)  I hadn't taken into account that any more of the family might have moved back.  He married my grandmother in 1927 but I think they divorced around the time my father was born in 1928.  My father never knew his father and had always wondered what became of him, hence my research.  Once of the pieces of documentation I found was the application for his registration of birth.  The address that he gave at that time was Selma, Taynuilt, Argyll, Scotland.  He also put the same address for his father, also John Crawford and his mother's name was entered as Jeanie Bell.  The date of this application was October 1944.

Anyway, I found that my grandfather died in Osoyoos, British Columbia in 1979 at the age of 74.  He had remarried by then and his second wife was a German lady called Hedwig (Hedy) Niewerth.  I know that she emigrated to Canada in 1952.

I'm delighted to have found this thread as it's provided me with some more information that I didn't have.  ;D

Ian should be in this picture, 5 of the 7 men are known to me, after intensive research.

He should be the 2nd or 4th in the top row from the left.

You are not in the possesion of a picture of Ian by any chance?

Anyways, there is more information of the crash on my website of the Halifax he flew in and crashed in my hometown in 1943.

Thanks for that David and thank you so much for all that you and your family have done for Ian and the other crew members.

I'm sorry but I have absolutely no photos of this generation of my family but I did discover last night that there were two more older sisters:

Clara Crawford (b: 8/2/1912) who married Edward Brown 17/6/1933
Annie Bell Crawford (b: 2/1/1915)

I wonder if there were any more siblings after Annie and before Ian.  I'm still to find out if there are any surviving children of this generation.  The only child mentioned is the one on the gravestone that you found named William Hill who died 7/7/1942

If I find anything then I'll post it here  :)
