Evelyn Hood and Ivy Hood. How are they connected ?
« on: Tuesday 05 June 18 00:14 BST (UK) »
Trying to find how Evelyn Hood (abt 1867-73) who married Joseph Gower in 1915 ( godstone ,Surrey) and Ivy Dorothy Hood(abt 1983) who married Harry James House are connected. Evelyn had a son Reuben Hood. she married Joseph Gower and are buried together in Redstone Cemetry, Redhill,Surrey. But Kathleen Matilda Joan House 1919-1965 is also buried with them. Kathleens mother is Ivy. I have gone down many lines but they are all dead ends. Evelyns father is down as Tom Hood (saddler) on her marriage cert to Joseph. Ivys father is William Hood ( farmer).  Can anyone help link them ?

Have you found a birth registration for Reuben?  Looks like it should be late 1902 or early 1903 in Reading.

I also see that Evelyn claimed to have been born in Sheffield, and already widowed when Reuben was 8  ???

When Reuben married (Redhill, 1922) he named his father, truthfully or not, as Reuben Hood, engineer, deceased.

It's hard to say as conflicting birth information for Ivy Dorothy Hood - her birth is not registered which doesn't help but she was baptised it seems at Haringey on 22/4/1894 - birth date given as 7/11/1892 - and she was the daughter of a William Hood, Carpenter, and wife Emma.

So conflicting birthdates, and conflicting occupations for father??  Plus one census states born Dalston and the other says Enfield??

Nor can I find a birth entry for Evelyn Hood for the relevant period??

However, the mother of Reuben is said to be Evelyn Hood, widow, born Sheffield ca.1873 and to complicate things further Reuben's birth doesn't appear to have been registered either!!

Clutching at straws, but there is a Reading connection.

Ivy was “visiting” there in 1901.

Reuben was supposedly born there in 1902.
