Settlingstones Mine Strike
« on: Tuesday 05 June 18 22:22 BST (UK) »
My Great Grandfather Matthew Philipson and his Father also Matthew Philipson and other family members formed a strike at Settlingstones Mine in Northumberland and the Philipsons were banned from working at the mine in future years. I have found information on a strike in 1939 but this was before this date as my Great Grandfather died in 1926.
I wonder if anyone called help me with these research. Thankyou

http://collections.beamish.org.uk/search-results?query=settlingstones+strike&go.x=0&go.y=0&searchType=&withPhotos=0&hiQuality=1
refers to "Police escorting miners to work at Settlingstones Witherite Mine during strike of 1911-12."
(but no detail).

This could give you a date to narrow down the search for the strike.

I would guess that the miners were also involved in the General Strike of 1926.

You might find information on the Durham Mining Museum website - they have a search facility for names and places:

Hope this helps

Hello, thankyou for replying. I got the information from family members, including my mother who is the Granddaughter of Matthew Philipson Junior. She also has a photo of them with banners on a march with about a dozen others.
