Beeny Family
« on: Thursday 07 June 18 07:45 BST (UK) »
I am the granddaughter of Walter Beeney born 1875 whose parents were Absolom and Letitia (Ripley).  My Grandfather's first wife was a Susan Ann Swaine and they had either one or two children.  After they divorced my Grandfather then married my Grandmother Alice Lily May Andrews and had two children, one being my Mother. I realise I am probably on a wasted journey but my quest is to try and find a photo of my Grandfather as no one in my immediate family has one.    Although Granddad was born in Kent he moved to Eastbourne where he became either a groom or a 'taxi' driver albeit horse and carriage.    If anyone can help I would be extremely grateful.

I can see the family unit in 1881. (Born Godhurst (kent) living Eastbourne))

Baptism 1874 Horsemonden. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J741-SN5

You would do better tracking his siblings forward to see what family photos may be "out there"

Absolom and letitia wed in 1863,Saint Michaels, Withyham, Sussex there should be a few more kids scattered around.

Greetings, and a warm welcome to Rootschat.

The search for a photograph is rather a long shot - but we'll have a try!

For information - the General Register Office (GRO) index has:

It might not tie in, but....
https://www.myheritage.com/names/william_beeney
has a (rather fuzzy) image of William Beeney 1831-1899 (Sussex area) - one of his children is said to be Absalom

Welcome to RootsChat.

The Beeney/Ripley family were Romany Gypsies.
If you do an internet search on Beeney Ripley you will come up with many hits.

Beeney is also spelled Beaney.
My ancestor Edwin Goatham married Priscilla Beaney in 1915, unfortunately she died in 1916.
Sorry I have no photos of these ancestors.

Thanks for your responses and suggestions which I will try and follow up.   I have managed to trace the Beeney family back to 1781 with the Birth of Absolom Beeney so presume Absolom became a family christian name as there was another Absolom born in 1821 and another in 1845.   My Great Grandfather Absolom produced 8 children (including another Absolom born 1880) but no William is mentioned but thanks Philip.    I think I am going to find it impossible to find anyone who might have either a family photo or an individual photo of my Granddad as either a boy or a grown man but maybe one day my luck will change!
Thanks again for your input.

Hi,

I have researched the Absolom family, and have info right back to 1585.
Absolum, Newson, Watt, Lennard, Brady, Hansen, Langdon, Marriott.. and everything in between.

Hi there,
I randomly came across this post, have you managed to find a picture of your grandfather? Let me know if not as I may be able to help, my great grandfather was Tom Beaney and we have a pretty detailed family tree and album
