William Johnson m Diana Martin - Stokenchurch 1839
« on: Thursday 07 June 18 20:46 BST (UK) »
I've been enquiring about potential parents for Diana Martin, supposedly a John Martin and, some would have me believe, an Elizabeth Parker both of whom died Lane End, 1837 & 1839 resp. No marriage record has been found but intriguingly, an 1841 census has an Alexander Parker, 75, living with William Johnson, Diana & children, William & Ann. This Alexander appears to have died 1845, aged 81 GRO Wycombe...so I just wondered if Diana's parents might have originated in Oxfordshire and if there might be a parish marriage record to fit? Annoyingly, for some reason, later census records shift Diana's place of birth from Stokenchurch to Norwood and fathoming that has me beat. Any answers, please, to this straw clutcher? Apologies if I'm in the wrong county.

Many thanks, that's looking very positive. Has anyone come across a marriage record for John Martin & Elizabeth Parker? Diana was born c.1814/1815. Is there a baptism record for Diana? She may have had at least 7 siblings for whom there are baptism records, all in the Wycombe area. From somewhere there's a suggestion that Elizabeth Parker's parents were a Howard & Sarah, but I've lost the link to that snippet. My curiosity further piqued by sight of Alexander Parker in 1841 census!

Thanks for the baptism dates. It leads me to wonder about those other 7 siblings ascribed to John Martin & Elizabeth, all of whom have those Wycombe baptism records...it wouldn't surprise me to find 2 separate families...the more gaps I try and plug...

Maybe John and Elizabeth moved after daughter Ann was born??

In 1841 census it clearly states Diana was NOT born in county she was living in i.e, she was not born in Oxfordshire -so it adds more possibilty to the baptism in Ruislip (address Northwood) being hers
