Did Kathleen marry?
« on: Friday 08 June 18 18:21 BST (UK) »
I have a date of birth August 1930 in St John's Enniscorthy (workhouse)
I assume she would have been baptised at the workhouse church. So given that she did marry would she have needed to ask to marry somewhere else in Ireland.
Who would hold such records? Would information be given freely or data protection kick in with the line of research.c
Oh so many question  ???

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

She would have needed a letter of freedom from the church she was baptised in to marry in another church although if she got married in the local church where she was raised since a baby she may not have needed a letter.
As such she could marry where ever she liked.

So would a letter of freedom be held on record somewhere? For the workhouse church in Enniscorthy.
I'm assuming the letter if available would show where Kathleen married & to whom.
Correct me anyone if I'm on the wrong track here
Many thanks in advance  :)

The letter would go to which ever church she married in but a note 'should' have been made next to her baptism as to who she married and when. That way any attempt to get a second letter would throw up a red flag and she would have to prove she was a widow to marry in a church.

Don't know if the churches keeps the letters of freedom or record of letters issued.

I assumed she maybe baptised there as her parents moved about a lot. So thought convenience would be the norm then.
Parents have Camolin as residence no specific address. I contacted the Catholic church there and there isn't a. record of her baptism.  :'(  I get the feeling of was important to have your baptised so if they died they would go to heaven.

Not sure if it was the same in all parishes but by the 1930s in my local parish baptisms happened every Saturday so most babies were baptised the Saturday after they were born. Depending on when she was born the parents could have traveled quite a bit before the next Saturday.
