Thanks Rosie
In answer to your question about Rose his sister I have no Idea where she was. The death notice of Hugh in the South Australia Paper read loving brother of Rose, Bessie and the late Mrs Burden who was Bridget. I guessed that perhaps Rose was still alive in 1902.  Bessie (Elizabeth) died in 1902 also.

Also find it hard with the birth years. One says he was 26 years in 1879 and yet the census in 1880 has him as 30.  I only wish that they had put the County where he was from somewhere. That would be more helpful that just Ireland.
I do know they came from County Monaghan. Possibly the Shirley estates.

The only positive thing at the moment is his death date which Bessie had put in the paper. 24/1/1902. And the deaths of his children. Many thanks for that.

No I do not have anything on Rose.  I have been looking thru Irish records but they are not too good and are hard to read. I will start again looking at them from 1840 to 1855. I have a feeling that she may be the eldest.  Do not know why.

But Rose was in Australia, yes?,  so no help having her age for 1900 US census which I assume is what Rosie was thinking.

No the question I asked was where was Rose ? And not finding the family in 1900
Residence year 1897 North Adams Massachusetts
Hugh Ward wks mill this occupation mentioned in one of the childrens certificates

There is a marriage 10 July 1905 North Adams Massachusetts
Mary ( Greening ) Ward this Mary was a widow and her second marriage her father is Thomas Greenan mother Mary Maguire ..She married a Leo F Harcourt but on1910 census records she is recorded as having no children ..1920 census there is a Mary E Ward birth year 1898 Massachusetts with the family recorded as sister in law age 22 occupation nurse
Might be a possibility
