Looking for some local knowledge on a place

William Edward FISHER died in 1987 and in the probate document his address was stated as  Goodshelter Mill La Caunton nr Newark Notts

Not sure how best to record that address and seeking some local knowledge.  i located a Mill Lane in Newark so wondering if 'Goodshelter' might be the name of a home or??

Is the tower mill in the photograph  Goodshelter or the Tower Mill in Mill Lane   or are you saying this is the location of the address?

I know Mill Lane Caunton exists as I used to live not too far away, it's the road off the A616 which I travelled regularly. I think Goodshelter was the name of his house or maybe mill if he was a miller, I would write the address

Goodshelter, Mill Lane, Caunton nr Newark, Notts or

Goodshelter
Mill Lane
Caunton
Newark
Notts


Newark has a Mill Gate but Caunton is about 7 - 8 miles from Newark so it's the Mill lane Caunton you need.

Just done a quick wander along Mill Lane, Caunton and I found a couple of houses where I could see names on the houses not numbers. It's a long lane so start from the end of Main Street to 'walk it'. The houses are nearest to the Main Street end.

Lovely area to live, Newark is an old market town with the remains of a castle where King John (of Robin Hood fame) died in 1216. Castle was partly destroyed by Cromwell in the English Civil War.

It's Sharp's Mill or Caunton Mill in Caunton.
