The mysterious John Tandy

In the 1851 England census, John Tandy, aged 1, appears with siblings, parents James and Ann, and Grandfather George Tandy.

I can’t find a baptism for John, nor does his birth appear to be registered.

There’s a burial for a 15 year old John Tandy at Tresham/Alderley in 1860 which is cheek by jowl with Hawkesbury, but I’m not convinced by this one, the age seems too far out.

By 1861, John has disappeared from the census. Sibling William and Joseph are still there with James and Ann, and amongst others they’ve been joined by 11 year old Robert. I can find a baptism for Robert.

I am wondering, then, are John and Robert one and the same? And if not, what happened to John?

The 1851 entry doesn’t actually tell you that “John” is a son of James & Ann - only that he is a grandson of George.

However, all things considered I do think it likely that he is the same person as Robert Tandy whose birth was registered Mar qtr 1850 Chipping Sodbury, and who was baptised at Hawkesbury on 28 April 1850, son of James (labourer) & Ann, of Hawkesbury Upton.
