Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Just to help others - it would appear that according to her marriage cert Josephine was born c.1893. There are trees that have her birthplace as Scotland, parents William and Helen Clarke. Her marriage took place in 1915, Canada. So that at least gives a time frame to work with.

Thank you JJen for the helpful information.

I have just looked at the 1911 Scottish census -- not conclusive, but there is a Josephine Clarke on that census with a mother Helen. Josephine is a Dairymaid -- if this is her, it cuts the timeframe down further. She was born Lanark -- living in the St Rollox area of Glasgow.

This may be a complete red herring of course as it may not be her!

However I think the year of immigration is shown on Canadian census records -- so the year should be shown on the 1921 census if you have access to Ancestry, Pat.

Thank you for the link to the previous thread Sandra -- great background information on that. Josephine's sister Caroline is mentioned.

Still haven't found Josephine's emigration though -- may need to go to Specsavers.

Ancestry have a Miss Clark born 1893 travelling out to St Johnís New Brunswick on the the Empress of Britain on 7th March 1913 ( Ancestry have this wrongly recorded as the Empire of Britain). Strangely if you check the shipís arrival information in Canada on 16/3/1913 there is no sign of a matching passenger. I checked another passenger E A Nightingale age 21, a Baker and he appears on both lists so it is definitely the same sailing.

Sorry - not her. I used the passenger number from the outgoing list and it matches up with a Mary Clark age 22 on list at Canadian side ( different age causing confusion) She was with a Harry Clark age 48 ( given as A Clark age 30 at the uk end).

I just can't find how she got here. Her sister 18 yr old Caroline came in 1913 aboard the Cassandra .
