What is the Military Branch

Can anyone tell me what military branch this person is with?
I have looked through many of the uniforms but have seen none
like this one yet.

He's Canadian. The bandolier indicates a mounted outfit but not possible to say which.
Was he born 1895 & had mother Martha ?

Is the bandoleer his or a photographer's prop?
If the leather bandoleer belongs to the soldier then the photograph probably was taken early or pre-WW1. A prop anytime.

Not sure if a prop in the photo and also not sure if it is Herbert John Scott, was a name put on the photo.  Attached is also a photo.  I believe they are 2 different men

Was said to be the same person.  To me, they do not look alike.

The Herbert John Scott Pte. (the other being a Capt.) so not him attested into the 156th. Batt. A photo of them shows them wearing bandoliers albeit not the same as this. They are also wearing riding breeches so did have mounted Coys.

Elizabeth (Murphy) Scott and father was Arthur Scott.  Herbert John Scott was born April 13, 1891, in Nottingham
