State Records of SA - Update
« on: Wednesday 13 June 18 05:41 BST (UK) »
Good news.  SA Records have partnered with Familysearch.org to digitise some of their most popular records.

Well, that is very good news indeed ;D

South Australia has always been the most challenging state to research in my experience.
Always best left to those with the right offline resources. ;D

It will be great to see how it works from here on, and to watch as other records are added.

Thanks for the happy alert Cando. ;D

Thanks for that Cando...... I was on the familysearch.org website a few weeks ago, and came across South Australian Records.
It seems there is a group who are indexing the BMD's and putting them on this website.
For the life of me I don't seem to be able to find them again.
Perhaps someone else will enlighten me as to where they are..... I know I did see them. :)

Sarra I think you may have found the online databases at SAGenealogy.  The group published the SA BDM CD's a number of years ago, transcribed from the local registers.

I'm really not too sure now.... I'll have to stumble across it again - this time take note of what it actually is.
From memory I think there was a mention of "Community Tree" somewhere.

SA Genealogy have already indexed the South Australian BDM's.  Why not use their databases.

I do use and have used these records for my South Australian research. At the time I came across these records on FamilySearch I was looking for something other than SA Records.
However I found what I mentioned "Community Trees"  information below.

Community Trees - Australia. South Australia. Date range: 1600s-1990s. "These community trees give information about families living mostly in South Australia. The information was taken from the South Australian birth, marriage, and death indexes, and some information from overseas. Where possible, sources are included and also some notes from the South Australian biographical indexes. Information in the latter, although not always verified, can provide at least a starting point for research. This is an ongoing project that will be updated as new information is available. "

I was surprised that all the information I found regarding my Ancestors has been indexed by "Community Trees".

Hi Cando,

Thanks for this update, I have now been able to find images relating to my GGGF from the Insolveny Registers and the Adelaide Gaol Registers.  I knew from the newspapers that things happened but it is nice to see the images from the Registers.

Hi Gerry  :)

Pleased the info was useful.  I'm pleased that the data wasn't 'sold' to Ancestry or FindMyPast.  Annoys me that PROV chose to go down that path.

Cheers
