Church lookups
« on: Wednesday 13 June 18 18:08 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Can anyone tell me at what churches the following events happened at and any additional indexed information e.g. parishes of couple etc:

Marriage of Alexander McGregor and Eliza Streater, 1847, Contin
Christening of Alexander MacGregor, 1815, Dingwall
Marriage of Simon McGrigor and Margaret MacKenzie, 1811, Fodderty
Christening of Margaret MacKenzie, 1796, Dingwall
Marriage of John MacKenzie and Christy MacDonald, 1792, Dingwall

Thanks!

Adam

The marriages might not have taken place in a church at all, C of S weddings generally took place at the manse or a family home.

ScotlandsPeople gives the area but not where the ceremony took place sadly.

Only two sacraments in the C of S, baptism & communion. Anent marriage, the banns were called in the parish kirk/kirks & cautioner's put up a few bob which was forfeit if the intended nuptials proved frivolous or dodgy!
The OPR's are often incomplete, Urray is not so good as I recall, Dingwall might be better. Scotlandspeople would be the place.

I haven't viewed them - I just have the dates and places. I just didn't know if the places corresponded with particular churches e.g. on FamilySearch records in Shalford, Essex are taken from St. Andrew's Church. I wasn't aware of the Church of Scotland rituals of ceremonies not always taking place in a church.

You really need to see the images on Scotlands people in case there is extra information. I think the index only shows a registration district
