Ty Castroggy, Moor St, Chepstow - private residence or an institution?

Dear Rootschatters

Not sure if this is the right section to ask but I wonder if anyone with knowledge of Chepstow history will know what Ty Castroggy was please in 1926?

This address is given as the birth place of a family member, and I wonder if this place was a hospital, 'home' for unmarried mothers or just a private residence.  The birth cert. shows this address as the place of birth, but the mother's address is shown as Minchinhampton, Glos, so as she was a single mum, I wonder if she moved away for the birth?

If you can point me to a possible resource, that would be useful too.

Hi

I've looked at an old directory for Monmouthshire dated 1923 (available on Ancestry) and can see numerous businesses on Moor Street, Chepstow , but there is also a midwife listed too.

DAVIS  Gertrude (Miss) C.M.B Midwife ..... Moor Street.

Maybe something to look into

Nurse takes in Patients pending and during; strictly private. - Davis, Ty-Gastroggy, Moor Street, Chepstow.

I assume pending and during means pregnancy.

Excellent - thanks for taking the trouble to look this up.  I wouldn't have thought of local newspapers.  I wonder how many mums-to-be were taken in at a time? 

It would be interesting to know which property it is in Moor St, if it's still standing.  I only did a quick Google search and couldn't find any reference to the house name Ty Castroggy.

I think I'll look at the 1911 census for entries in Moor St and see if any had that name back then.
