William Burnett
« on: Friday 15 June 18 15:26 BST (UK) »
Hi all
Looking help tracing William Burnett, born 12/4/1906 in Magherafelt to Margretta Louisa Burnett,no father listed.
No listing in 1911 Irish Census for either.
Found a marriage in Chorlton on Medlock,Lancashire of aMargretta Louisa Browne to Henry George Battersby in 1916, ref CHO RM/252/112'but this registration ref has also added surname of Burnett, suggesting a marriage to Browne between 1906 and 1911.
Found. In 1911 Lancashire census a Margretta Browne, working as a barmaid in 80 Oxford St,Manchester, listed as born in Co Derry and born 1884 which is the birth year of the origional . No sign of a William.
Would adoption have been a possibility  in  1906?
Have checked Irish Geanology  for possible death, but found nothing.
Any pointers would as usual be much appreciated.

1906 is too early for official adoption in Ireland or England but try searching 1911 census (both England and Ireland) under initials in case William has in some sort of institution (hospital, workhouse, school, etc.).
Sometimes children were 'adopted' by relatives so have a look to see if any of the Browne connection have a child William the same age- if not birth certificate for such child then might be a possibility.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi All
Found some additional information on Margretta Louisa Burnett.Had a son by the name of James Browne, born at 40canal Bank,Monton Manchester.on 16 Sept 1909.Fathers name on birth cert was also James, but listed as dead.As in my post about William, I do not see James listed in 1 911 census  either.I am thinking of putting a request on the Lancashire site regarding the possible death of James Senior and also possible residence of James junior in the 1911 census.Thoughts would be appreciated
