Thank you Margaret
I am not getting on well with Windows 10,  no contact list so I will have to transfer everything across when my PC returns and re-log onto everything regarding family tree stuff that I stayed logged into all the time
After such a lovely bright sunny day yesterday albeit cold it is a really lousy miserable day, so I might just stay in and give myself a few Windows 10 lessons
I might try today to ring Cambridge to find out the admissions registers for Joseph

Huge thank you Margaret

Hoping that one of those emails was to Bedfordshire Archives Service, if so I'd be interested to know if they responded and if they hold any records for the Bedford Harpur Charity Hospital School.

Looking at old newspapers online at FindMyPast/BNA- Northampton Mercury, Bedfordshire Mercury, 1830s & 1840s, there are reports of 'Vacancy at the Hospital' & it seem the boys/girls are nominated & elected by the Charity in order to attend the school. Some of the names on the 1841 census of Blue Coats Hospital appear in these reports but I've not yet found one for Joseph Dawson.

I have PM'd you the replies I have received, with no luck at all, so I am a bit stuck and will just have to go with the info I have from 1841

Many thanks for coming back to me

Over the past few weeks I've been trawling through newspaper reports featuring the meetings of The Bedford Harpur Charity for the children living in the Bluecoat Hospital on 1841 census. While I've found nothing for your Joseph Dawson being admitted into the Hospital there are a couple of snippets about him leaving the place.
As per Hertford Mercury & Bedford Reformer June 1843. Apprentices. That Joseph DAWSON be allowed to leave the Hospital & go one month on liking to Charles Bond of Northampton, plumber & glazier.
As per Hertford Mercury & Bedford Reformer July 1843. Apprentices. Ordered, that the following persons be bound apprentice, viz:- Joseph DAWSON to Charles Bond, Northampton, plumber.

He was still there in April 1846 as per Northampton Mercury ; County sessions. Charlotte Bond, wife of plumber & glazier in Abington Street said.....:   Joseph Dawson, apprentice to Mr Bond, corroborated his mistress's story.

In those day apprenticeships last 7 years & he started age 14 in 1843 so he was a freeman in 1850, although his master Charles Bond died April 1848. When he married Elizabeth BULL in 1850, his occupation was painter. On 1851 census he was a painter, & on 1861 census he was a plumber.

Regards John
