Thomas Sheperd c1728. Elsfield, Oxon.??
« on: Tuesday 19 June 18 01:04 BST (UK) »
Hi folks.

Thomas Sheperd, marries Martha Howse, in 1757, Dinton, Buckinghamshire.

He gives his age as 29, of Elsfield, Oxon.  I have been given 2 baptisms ......

Thomas Shepherd, 19 January 1723. Toot Baldon, Oxon  Father Edward.
Thomas Sheppard,  5 March 1726. Chipping Norton  Father Richard.

The years are out, and I guess his age at marriage maybe rounded up, possibly.

The Toot Baldon baptism seems the most likely, only by location to Elsfield.  But I cannot discount the Chip. Norton baptism to readily, because of year.

Has anyone access to Elsfield PR's, to check them out please.

Variations of the surname are many. ::)

Thanks.

Steve. :)

Hello Steve
Not good news .I've checked out the Elsfield parish records on Ancestry and FindMyPast and no Sheperds or Shepherds or anything like that at all.
That Thomas Sheppard of 1726 is Thomas Sheppard 5.3.1727 (new year of our style calender) to Richard and Esther at Chipping norton with Over Norton

Also
Thomas s of Thomas 28.5.1731 at Brampton
Thomas s of John at Oxford St Peter in the East 27.4.1724
Thomas 16.10.1726 s of Jon  at Thame.
Thomas s of Micheal at Gt Haseley 1.9.1723

The guy from toot Baldon Toot looks to have been buried 4.1.1786

Given that the Chipping Norton baptism would only be 1 year out I'd go for that.
Other children for them-
Richard an infant buried 6.3.1720,Charles 27.1.1723 ,Sarah 18.12.1724,Susannah 2.6.1729,John 23.5.1731,Mary 4.2.1732 ,Edward 29.3.1734,Esther 21.10.1736.
They married 29.1.1718/9 Richard Sheppard and Esther Rimill

Richard buried 12.7.1764 age 60
Hester buried 11.11.1762

Undecided on the one from Thame, and the one from Chippy.

Location of Thame to Dinton, I can't ignore.  Seems more logical to me.  I was going to check the Marriage Index, but never got time today, with researching other family members.

I'll be looking later this evening, and see what's to be found.

Thanks for the input, and hopefully I'll resolve it.

5 marriages that would fit for Thomas Sheperd(name variations apply). which can be eliminated.  No others within a reasonable time frame.

1754 - Great Haseley. (son of Michael).???
1757 - Stratton Audley.
1764 - Charlbury.
1757 - Churchill. (Chipping Norton).???
1765 - Ox. St Giles.

I am now leaning to the baptism in Thame, son of John.
