Stockton marriage
« on: Thursday 21 June 18 14:09 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I know that Henry Stockton married Sarah Stubbs in Market Drayton in 1821. Sarah Stubbs was born there in 1802. However, his wife in 1851 and 1861 gives different birthplaces. Did Henry remarry at any point? He was a railway labourer so frequently moved. My ancestor is his daughter Elizabeth, born in Yorkshire in 1840.  I still have no burial or death record for Henry.

I'd appreciate any help!

Is she still called Sarah?

Are the birthplaces wildly different or places located close to each other?  You might put down a specific village on one but round it up to the nearest town on another for example.

She's called Sarah on both. One appears to be Gloucester and the other is Hallington, Kent. So I really don't know. I'm not sure if this Sarah is the mother of my Elizabeth or the Sarah Stubbs is.

Does he appear in 1841 - when have you last sight of him?

My ancestor is his daughter Elizabeth, born in Yorkshire in 1840.

No birth certificate for her with mothers maiden name I take it so if you can find her birth registration on the GRO index it should give her mothers maiden name.

What district in Yorkshire was she born?

I can't find any births for Elizabeth Stockton 1840 on the GRO index  :(

There's one in 1841 Halifax mothers name Barker but don't think she is yours.

Sorry I can't see any Sarah Stockton born 1802 on census born Hallington Kent - is she a widow, married, how old.

It's the 1861 census in Awre, Gloucestershire, except this Sarah is aged 44, which suggests Henry remarried to another Sarah.

Yes, the Barker one is someone else. Previous posts on Elizabeth Stockton specifically concluded that her birth wasn't indexed.
