How does the "Quote" button works?

Can you explain how that "Quote" button works?  If I wanted to only include a portion of a message do I just delete the rest that shows?  Or are there some other tricks?

That's what I do.

That is maybe easier for you Bryce. I normally only ever quote a small part of a post so I "copy and paste" the bit I wish to quote and I use the "insert quote" button which is found above the box in which you type in (it is the one with a speech bubble)
