Tracing the FEVERS family
« on: Monday 25 June 18 20:37 BST (UK) »
My great-grandmother is Charlotte Fevers who was born in Barnsley in 1831.  Her Father was Thomas Fevers (1781-1846) and her mother was Ann Scales (1791-1848).  At least this is the current information that I have.

I have no other information regarding the Fevers line.  Are there any Fevers fans out there?

Thanks,
Bryce

Baptised perhaps as Charlotte FERS, 4 March 1831 at Barnsley, parents Thomas (a publican) and Ann, of Barnsley - is that the right person?

I see that Charlotte Fevers was in service in the London area (Isleworth) by 1851, and married in Twickenham on 13 August 1855 to David Abdy Jones, naming her father as Thomas Fevers, a servant.

Yes, you are correct.  Charlotte married David Abdy Jones and they emigrated to the USA.  He went on to join his two brothers in Chicago where they had a brickmaking business.

Thomas Fevers, Charlotte's father, is still a mystery.  I just have not been able to locate any information on him.

Thank you for your quick response.

If he died in Doncaster in 1846, his death registration gives his age as 60.

Deaths: On Monday last, at Doncaster, Mr Thomas Fevers, in the 59th year of his age, formerly groom to the late Sir George Cooke, Bart.

Sheffield & Rotherham Independent, 7 March 1846.

Thomas’ former employer looks likely to be Sir George Cooke, 7th baronet of Wheatley Hall, Doncaster (died 1823).

I have Ann's death record.

But Thomas is still a question.  In the 1841 census he claims that he is 60, so that conflicts with the newspaper information you found.  How do we reconcile this?
