There is a statement of his service abroad amongst these records that says he served in the West Indies from Dec. 1795 to Dec. 1797.

Britain was at war with France in the West Indies at St. Lucia in 1796.

It might be worth posting on the Military boards to see if anyone there has any suggestions as to which medical facility he could have be returned to.  Probably somewhere in the South East of England  :-\

So if in the West Indies until Dec 1797 that cant be the right Marriage in Oct 1797?

In one of his records it has
Statement of Service
21st Dec 1791 to 22 Dec 1799
Total Service 10 years
4 years in East or West Indies included in that service

I can't see any dates for his years there though  :-\

Trish he was apparently wounded in 1796 (reply 9) so could have been back in Kent
