Mayberry/Jones Wedding - 2nd Opinions Pls

Esther Mayberry 1782 - 1824 >>>

Edward Mayberry 1758 (Father) married Mary Jones (mother).


I am seeking clarity on records regarding Edward / Mary. FamilySearch arrives with little and again I am not able to use premium sites.


Searching I have located a marriage citation for Mary Jones to an Edward Jones 5th Sept 1782 in Monmouthshire, Wales which would fit my thoughts on the marriage.

Esther was born 1782 (although being Sept Mary would have been pregnant if this was the marriage for my family - that doesn;t fit with the 'usual remit' of marriage the year before child).


I cannot find records online to read an entry and confirm if it may have been transcribed incorrectly ie Edward Jones instead of Edward Mayberry.


A bit of a brickwall which needs a fresh pair of eyes cause i'm spinning


Would be grateful for anothers investigatory skills or ability to sight entry through another source not available to me.


To clarify : Esther's details are good / Edward as father is confirmed, the rest is investigation findings at the moment.

This looks like her parents marriage at Newchurch st Peter
Edward Maiberry of Chapel hill 27.5.1782 to Mary Jones of Newchurch.
Bach and spinster by banns.
ps Freereg transcription has James not Jones for Mary the bride.

It does look like the transcripter muggled things up a bit.
Mary would still be pregnant though.

Jones in Wales you have an uphill struggle to find the right Jone's, om so far as pregnant before marriage it is very likely many married carrying their first child...so things have never really been any different, couples just choose not to marry now a days

I believe this could well be the detail I seek. I searched Mayberry and also Maybury but not aware of Maiberry as a version, which I will now add to my searches moving earlier into history.

Can also see a theme being created as Edward & Marys daughter, Esther, married James Powell (Powell being my mothers paternal line). Esther Capel Hill - James was born Newchurch.

Marriage slightly earlier in the year ie May also 'helps' the fact Esther was born in the same year.

That's the record I requested. However I am thinking that Ciderdrinker's find of marriage records for Maiberry & Jones is a more likely fit now than the hope that Jones & Jones was down to a transcription err.

Am grateful for you giving the details tho'

And yes - I am somewhat 'nervous' of the prospect of progressing a 'Jones' line in Wales BUT am hoping that Jones can't be spelt in many different ways as Mayberry and alike haha.
