Grocer Lochmaben
« on: Thursday 28 June 18 10:15 BST (UK) »

I would like to find out where the grocer Thomas FORSYTH  had his business in Lochmaben, from around 1860/75.

His two sons were also grocers.

Have you looked for him on the 1861 census as I can't see an obvious entry?  Can you include some identifying details (ie) birth year and birthplace - sons names etc

He's down in the Valuation Rolls for 1865, cupcake. I looked him up yesterday in relation to your other query about Lairs. From memory, I  think it was early 1860s as tenant/occupier in either High Street or Castle Street and then 1864-65 as proprietor/occupier in Well street.

All this for free in SP.

If you select 1875, you'll find him as P/O or P  in Well St 1866-70 and in 1868, also T/O in Bruce St.

Thank you for that Gadget. I do apologize for another thread but the other one was headed Caerlaverock and thought it better to start this one for Lochmaben.

James and his two sons died in Well Street (infomation from their death certificates) His wife Agnes died in Castle Street.

Will look on Scotlands People  :).
