Bulcamp Workhouse birth registers 1905 - 1909
« on: Thursday 28 June 18 15:50 BST (UK) »
On 1911 census, Albert Smith is shown as a 3 year old son of Thomas Strowger and his wife Annie Maria Strowger (née Smith). They were married on 3 August 1907 in Leiston and live in Cross Street, Leiston with their 3 daughters and Annie Maria's 20 year old sister Lottie.

Albert was born in Bulcamp so I believe was born in the Workhouse there however I cannot find his birth. I have ordered several birth certificates but none show a birth to Annie Maria or Lottie Smith. There is an Albert John Smith oorn to Edith Maria Smith (domestic of Middleton) which seeems the closest match but the mother's name and location do not match.

Has anyone access to the Bulcamp Workhouse records who could look for this birth? I would be very grateful for any help.

Have you tried the birth for Albert Victor Smith in Jun 1907 Depwade?

Also have you found him later on either marrying or on the 1939 register which would give his exact date of birth?

One of the daughters is crossed out so has she died or was that just to make the numbers fit.
Have you a birth for one of the daughters around the same time as Albert because Annie Maria couldn't have had both babies at the same time!

The records for Blything Union Workhouse, Bulcamp are held by Suffolk Record Office and they appear to only have births 1914-1934. http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Blything/

The notation says 'included in another return' and you will find her up the road with her grandparents.

I think this is the one they spoke of in the opening post.

There is an Albert John Smith oorn to Edith Maria Smith (domestic of Middleton) which seeems the closest match but the mother's name and location do not match.

Many thanks for the replies.

Daughter Florence was with her grandparents which is why she was crossed out.
Albert John Smith is the Sept 1907 Blything birth (first one I ordered) so is not my Albert
Have not ordered the Depwade Albert Victor Smith as I thought I would go for Blything first but will do so - thank you.

I will look at the Albert Smiths in 1939 but that is a daunting task (doing my mum's Smith tree has been exhausting and taken sixteen years so far as everything has to be double checked).

Will let you know the answer on the Depwade birth
Thanks for your help and advice everyone
