Hi
There is a John Jones born 1864 Q1 Llanelly  mmn Gower
Several Jones/Gower births which include Llewelyn Goroney
In 1871 there is a family, parents Thomas and Elizabeth with children including John and LLewelyn G  born 1868.
Couple of marriages in LLanelly for a Thomas Jones and Elizabeth Gower  in 1861 and 1863 (same or different?) may be an error.

Interesting, the 1863 marriage of Thomas Jones & Elizabeth Gower would appear to be the father of Thomas remarrying to the widowed mother of Elizabeth.

From Probate index, Letters of Administration of  the personal estate and effects of John Gower, late of Capel Evan, in the parish of Llanelly famer deceased who died 13 Jan 1859 at Capel Evan granted to Elizabeth Gower widow, relict of the deceased.

This is a very large family descending from John Gower 1800-1859 and Elizabeth Williams 1810-1903 that I have very thoroughly researched.  Your John Gower Jones was their grandson being the son of their daughter Elizabeth Gower 1841-1935 and Thomas Jones 1836-1932 and was the second of their 14 children.  He died on 8 May 1949 at 9 Ilton road, Cardiff

Relating to Paterchurch’s research,  would you have any details to confirm how the union of John Gower 1800 and Elizabeth Williams might i any way be connected with John Gower b.1854 (poss1853) of Pembrey who married Margaret (possibly Davies)?  John’s father was probably William Gower b. 1815 in Pembrey. The family lived at Penllwyn, Pembrey in 1861,
These Gowers were miners; is there any evidence of when they might have left the land?

Unfortunately I have no trace in my records of a John Gower born 1853/4.  The nearest one in date that I have in my records is one born in about 1857 but his father was Thomas Gower born about 1812.  As for a William Gower born 1815  the only one that I have was baptised at Pembrey 4 April 1813 his parents being Jonathan Gower and Elizabeth of Dimpath.

My ancestor John Gower was born in 1800, the son of Morse Gower and his wife Mary (Rees).  He did have a brother, William, baptised at Pembrey Church 17 March 1803.  In the 1861 and 1871 Censuses he is listed as a Pitman at the Colliery ie miner.  However he never married.  He died on 27 September 1871  and was buried at the Jerusalem Independent Chapel. Burry Port.

In all  probability, due to the same forenames being used within a famly, there is some connection but this may go back to Morse Gower and his forebears and I have only traced a single line back from him

Thank you for that, Paterchurch. I shall need to try to follow a different line.  I am finding genealogy in Wales to be very difficult!
