tracking down relatives of RAf Warhero F/O Harold Thomas Maskell
« on: Saturday 30 June 18 15:16 BST (UK) »
For a proposed RAF memorial unveiled 29th September 2018 by the still living Pilot Ernest Holmes I would like to get in touch with the relatives of F/O Harold Thomas Maskell. His age was 35 when his aircraft a 35 sqdn Lancaster was shotdown over Vessem(The Netherlands) 22 May 1944. Harold was the Son of Alfred and Lottie Louise Maskell; and husband of Margery Kate Maskell of Ipswich,Suffolk. Harold is buried Eindhoven Woensel Cemetery. Can some one put me in the right direction??

Thank you very much for looking,
Adrian van Zantvoort

Hi,

Harold's wife remarried in 1948, Samford to Arthur F O Hammond.

Margery, her husband and two girls (born 1938 and 1944) from the Maskell/Best marriage moved to Australia -

Mrs Margery Kate Hammond
Departure Place - Southampton, United Kingdom
Arrival date - 6 Jun 1951
Arrival Place - Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
Age on Arrival - 37
Vessel - Asturias

Margery's death -

Margery Kate Hammond
Age - 71
Death Place - Ferntree Gully, Victoria
Father's name - Alfred Best
Mother's name:   Fannie
Registration Year - 1985
Registration Place - Victoria

Therefore you perhaps need to look further than the UK for Harold's direct line.

JJ

There is another birth (1934) of a male for a Maskell/Best marriage, which might be worth researching.

Cannot give names as some of these people may still be alive.

This person is mentioned on the probate record for Lottie Louisa Maskell in 1962.

If you look on FreeBMD you will be able to find the name of this person. I would suggest you then look for a marriage and any children born to that marriage. Hopefully that will then give you names of living people who may have information on Harold.

Otherwise post a request on Facebook for the link MaxD gave.

meantime we erected a memorial in May last year with the attendance of the survivor and pilot Ernest Holmes.  Still no luck to track down the relatives of Harold Maskell.
