A cross-check in the index on Scotlandspeople shows that Alice had alternative surname Chapman ( not McCann) so maybe not yours. Scottish deaths normally show all names by which a woman has been known in her lifetime.

Well that's disappointing, but thanks for checking. Seems like I have to go back to square one with William and Alice now.

The census records show that the Alice in Partick/Govan was the wife of a James and that the 'family' you refer to were her own.

Yes seems I have gone down the wrong path. This line is dead and therefore I need to start again in finding William and Alice Scouler :)

Your original post has been deleted but I’m sure it indicated the two sons, William and Charles, both went on to marry and I can see possibles for them in later records. Odd thing is that John seems to have died in 1868 ( from Irishgenealogy.ie records). There is a later John who seems to marry Catherine Taggart ( although 1889 marriage in Newry has him down as Schooner with father William Schooner, a Shoemaker) and John and Catherine Schoolar are in Scotland in 1901 with 11 year old son William Joseph (born Joseph William in 1890 in Ireland) and John is shown as age 30 giving year of birth around 1871. Is it possible he is actually a son of Alice McCann, the second wife? John says he was born Ireland, but I can’t immediately see a matching birth.
