Tennyson House, Blyth - Where is/Was it?
« on: Friday 06 July 18 19:28 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

From a death notice in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle of 17th Aug 1906 (kindly got for me by a fellow RootsChatter), my 3x gt grandmother Isabella Hill (Nee' Parker) is described as being 'late of Tennyson House, Blyth' although she actually passed away at her son in laws house in Wallsend.

What I would like to know if possible is:-

Where was/is Tennyson House, Blyth.

What was Tennyson House, was it a nursing home/ old folks home (did they have those back then?) or was it just a normal house called this?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

Hi David,

In The Stage 07 March 1929 newspaper there is an advert for variety acts. The address given is 120, Tennyson House, Waterloo Road, Blythe.

Not sure what the building would be but at least you now have a road name.

Yes ,  address 120 Waterloo Road.
You can find it on google Street if you put that address in, next door to "Blantyre" which fits with the 1911 Census.

Hi,

Having just looked on Google Maps/ Street View, how many times have I walked/driven past there when visiting my late Grandmother without realising it! :o I also now recall my late grandmother saying that family had lived on that part of the road somewhere, but she wasn't quite sure as to which house!

My thanks again, another family story/ memory confirmed! ;D

I think that we can call this one completed now.

Kind regards

David
