Tyrone Births 1847-1858
« on: Friday 06 July 18 21:00 BST (UK) »
Are there any parish records available, for Cappagh Parish, between the years 1847 and 1858. I cannot find births for the McSorley family, James, Bernard, Anne, Mary, Bridget and Patrick. Their father was Patrick McSorley b.1813, mother Mary b. 1819(surname unknown).

Children with those forenames (also a John) were baptised in the neighbouring RC parish of Termonmacquirk over the period 1839 - 1856 for parents Patrick McSorley and Mary McGurk.

I now see that you believe this to be a different family:

I would believe, if it were only for John- he doesn’t appear on census records or their headstone here locally.

James McSorley was living in Ballinamullan at the time of Griffiths Valuation in 1860, renting of his father in law, James Nugent. In later years they lived nearby in both Mullaghmore or Campsie, both in Omagh.

I wouldn't rule them out just because he didn't appear with the family in census or name isn't on headstone. Since John was baptised pre-civil registration of births and deaths he could easily have died before 1864 and it's not uncommon for names to be missing from headstones especially as many were erected years after the events listed. It's also possible he moved away from the area.

That is possible, there actually was a John McSorley who died age 17yrs in 1864, no details of his death are shown at Irish Genealogy site. I'm open minded, thanks
