Shoreham-by-Sea school
« on: Monday 09 July 18 11:15 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know anything about a school called St Monica? I have located reference to it on the 1939 register and on the Shoreham-by-sea directories. It may have been a prep school, it was situated on Shoreham Beach but so far I haven’t been able to locate any of its records.

Thanks in advance
Vicky

There is a mention of it here

The little church became our family church. I became a member of the Sunday school and also attended St.Monica’s school for young children, further along the beach.

Interesting that the writer of that came from Croydon, as a school where I taught, also Croydon, was evacuated there according to the log books. However the children were brought back when it was realised they weren't that safe there!  60 years later, when the class I was teaching was studying WW2, we did a mock evacuation to Shoreham.

I saw that but haven’t found anything more, other than what I’ve mentioned below. I didn’t realise they were brought back again after being evacuated. I’ll try contacting the West Sussex archives

Hi Vicky,

If you have access to British Newspapers you will see some references to St Monica's School, Shoreham Beach.
