Information about peoples profession
« on: Monday 09 July 18 20:46 BST (UK) »
Hi.

Is it possible to find information about people's profession or what kind of job people in Britain had?

Our case is a woman who arrived in Britain in 1944. She was born 1906 in Sweden, where she had jobs such as secretary or in the reception of hotels. She lived in London with a man whom she eventally married. She died in 1966.

We are very interested in what kind of job she had in London.

There might be something on her marriage certificate or death certificate to say what her occupation was.  Not too sure with recent(ish) certificates to be honest but someone will know  :)

Occupation should be listed on the marriage and death certificates, however, since she was about 60 when she died the death certificate may just say 'retired' or 'housewife.' In any event if there is an occupation listed it is unlikely to give her place of employment (unless she was living at her place of employment).
